Overview:
Vitro has an immediate opening for a Senior Automation Controls Engineer.
The position will be located at our fabricating plant in Crestline, OH and is responsible for providing technological and electrical engineering support for a highly technical and automated automotive glass fabrication facility.
The successful candidate will have exposure with and responsibility for process equipment, upgrades, new equipment installations, and other technological enhancements supporting the facility and manufacturing processes.
Typical equipment supported would include unique process equipment, robotics, programmable logic controllers, vision systems and process computers.
This position is a key senior member of the Engineer and Maintenance Department working closely with a team of Technicians, Engineers and Mechanics to design, implement, maintain and improve our state-of-the-art processes and serve our customers.
Responsibilities:
Develops project plans related to engineering assignments and assists in developing short and medium range plans
Utilizes effective cost controls and sound engineering judgment in the timely planning and implementation of projects and other work assignments to contribute to plant productivity and profitability goals and objectives
Partnering with production and process engineering to maximize equipment efficiencies and reduce scrap rates
Completing cost analysis, justification, specification and procurement of capital projects
Project work (robot upgrades/PLC upgrades, equipment upgrades)
Performing electrical troubleshooting in the assigned manufacturing area including programming and troubleshooting PLCs, Servos and robotics to eliminate downtime
Managing machine vision systems
Partnering with team members to complete continuous improvement activities utilizing Six Sigma methodologies
Assisting with HMI troubleshooting, upgrading and installing
Other duties assigned by management
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (EE), BSEE or BSEET and/or Associates degree with 8+ years of demonstrated experience dealing with highly complex automation equipment.
Demonstrated strong technical knowledge to program controls, preferably Allen Bradley and/or Modicon controls.
Experience using Six Sigma to improve processes preferred.
Knowledge of glass cutting, edging and bending for the automotive industry would be beneficial.
Ability to communicate effectively with operators, peers, management and vendors.
Ability to trouble-shoot, analyze and resolve mechanical problems, plan, organize and share information.
Ability to work independently and manage projects to established timelines.
