This job description requires knowledge/willingness to learn in the following duties of both Paint Prep and Media Blasting work:
*Paint Prep Position Overview: *
Prepare the product for painting/Remove prep-materials:
· Washes product assuring all oil and dirt is removed.
· Marks and masks off areas of product using tape and masking paper to protect it while surrounding areas are painted.
· Remove all tape and paper after the product is completely dry.
· Removes and disposes of tape and masking paper after the paint is dry.
· Caulks cracks when necessary using pneumatic and hand-pump caulking guns.
· Moves product into the paint booth.
· Sands or otherwise prepares surface for painting.
· Handles paint, paint related materials and hazardous wastes properly.
· Performs necessary quality assurance measures and appropriate paperwork as required.
· Properly disposes of paint, thinner, rags, and masking paper as needed.
· Performs the duties mentioned above to run successive colors on the same product as required.
Preforms all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Maintains a safe working environment by complying with all safety and environmental policies in the workplace.
Advocates for and promotes a safe work environment by reporting near misses and/or other safety and environmental hazards, wearing all PPE and encouraging others to do the same.
*Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:* *Competencies Required:* · Assist in body and paint repairs on various vehicles, tanks and beds · Assist in minor collision repair on different trucks and truck equipment · Perform basic body repair and exhibit sound and accurate decision making · Familiar with steel and fiberglass repairs · Be able to remove body parts and reassemble as required · Knowledge of pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations pertaining to occupational safety, health and air pollution control · Able to use, store and dispose of paint and cleaning products and chemicals · Able to safely preform cleanup techniques and practices · Able to understand occupational hazards and preform standard safety practices · Able to perform trade specifications and painting requirements · Able to work independently in the absence of supervision · Understanding of material properties & characteristics of critically used materials such as metals, fittings and fasteners · Knowledge of shop tools, machinery, and equipment · Able to clean up after themselves and maintain an orderly work area · Priority setting to ensure deadlines are met and goals are achieved · Able to read and interpret documents furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form · Familiarity with the metric system · Able to perform shop math; convert decimals to fractional equivalents, and fractions to decimal equivalents · Exhibits integrity through fair and ethical behaviors in all activities; maintains accountability for performance · *Self-starter* with a strong work ethic, and good attendance · Physical requirements: (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.
) o Able to lift 40#, minimum o Able to stand or walk continuously for long periods of time o Able to bend, stoop, climb, kneel, and crawl o Able to work at heights on scaffolding and ladders o Able to operate motorized vehicles and equipment (Lift truck experience preferred) o Able to see in a normal vision range with, or without correction – and sufficient vision to read printed documents and to operate equipment o Able to see color o Able to hear in the normal audio range with or without correction *Media Blaster* *Position Overview: * · Blasting strips a surface of dirt, rust, old paint, and grease, and prepares it for refinishing and repair using pneumatic, electrical, or mechanical equipment.
This job relies on manual labor and is physically demanding.
A blaster’s work environment is often dusty and loud.
· Remove paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt by controlling the pressure and direction of the abrasive material, preventing surface damage and injury to coworkers.
· Shovel and pour abrasive material into the machine, and monitor and maintain an adequate supply of the abrasive in the hopper.
· Before the abrading action, the sandblaster will protect specific areas of the work surface using masking film, tape, and rubber.
· Responsible for lifting, carrying, and setting up heavy equipment and parts onto racks, into tumbling barrels, or into cabinets.
· Prepare parts for the paint shop, steam cleaning motors and chassis, and other general labor may be included in the blaster’s job duties.
· *Maintain equipment and work area.
* · Maintain the blasting equipment, such as cleaning and changing nozzles.
· Ensure work area is clean and orderly, and that any unsafe working conditions are corrected or reported immediately.
· Preforms all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
