Kenyon College, a highly selective, nationally ranked liberal arts college in central Ohio, invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor in Religious Studies with a specialization in Religion in the Americas.
We seek a broadly trained scholar of religion who can teach a range of historical and geographic contexts related to religion and society in the Americas.
Expertise in some combination of the following areas is expected: African American Religions, African Diaspora religious traditions, Native American religions, or religious traditions/movements emerging in the Americas.
Methodological approaches that employ sociological or anthropological analyses are also desirable.
Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to excellent teaching, including the use of inclusive pedagogies, along with strong mentoring and academic support of diverse student populations.
The term of appointment will begin July 1, 2024.
The teaching load is five courses over two semesters (2/3 or 3/2).
This includes one section of our department’s introduction to religion course (RLST 101 Encountering Religion in a Global Context), one section of an introductory course on religion in America (RLST 130 Religion and Society in America), and three other introductory survey or advanced seminar courses according to the candidate’s expertise.
