Under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Director of Academic Advising, the Athletic Student Success Coach will provide student-centered, proactive support to undergraduate student-athletes.
The Athletic Student Success Coach will help the student-athletes complete meaningful educational plans compatible with their personal and/or career goals while supporting their interest as a student-athlete.
A major focus will be to create and maintain an interactive environment that encourages mutual trust, open communication, and support in achieving academic success.
This position will work with the College’s Professional Academic Advisor, Faculty Advisors, Faculty, Athletic Department Staff, Coaches, and Administration to support the retention and completion of student-athletes at Ashland University.
Essential Position Duties and Responsibilities: Manages a caseload of student-athletes Maintains accurate records (including electronic records) of interaction with students.
Develop support materials and presentations to support individual and group student sessions.
· Communicate with students regularly to apprise them of semester dates, deadlines, and other relevant university policies and procedures.
Receives and submits referrals to and from faculty and other University offices for academic issues or personal concerns.
Utilizes early alerts, mid-semester, and end-of-semester grades to determine interventions for students.
Serves as a liaison and fosters intentional relationships with other advisors, coaches, offices, colleges, and university offices/departments.
Participates in Admissions and orientation-related events as requested I.

, Athletic events · Ensures selected course schedules are appropriate based on practice and athletic content schedules for student-athletes · Manages and develops, as well as assists others in, one or more programs and/or projects related to student success, persistence, and graduation rates.
Understands the institution’s interpretation of FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) rules for the release of student information to faculty, parents, students, etc.
Understands and demonstrates knowledge of NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) and GMAT (Great Midwest Athletic Conference) compliance rules and regulations to ensure eligibility certification for both incoming student-athletes and current student-athletes Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution Two (2) to four (4) years of experience in a higher education setting Two (2) years of current or previous athletic academic advising experience is preferred · Knowledge of NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) and GMAT (Great Midwest Athletic Conference) policies and procedures in order to maintain student-athlete compliance and wellbeing Must have excellent written and verbal communication and people skills, strong computer, and organizational skills, and must be able to think, plan, and execute strategically · Candidate must have a customer service orientation and utilize relationship-building techniques in a cross-cultural environment Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others and in teams Proven ability to work with diverse populations Desire to work in an upbeat, creative, and exciting environment that is constantly striving to provide better service and support Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Higher Education or related field (in progress or completion upon hire) Previous experience as a student-athlete at an accredited institution Experience in academic counseling and/or counseling and working with collegiate student-athletes on the college level is strongly preferred.
Physical Demands This position operates in a professional office environment.
This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
The employee frequently is required to; stand, walk, use hands to finger, and reach with hands and arms.
This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 25 pounds.
This is a full-time position, and the work hours and days are Monday through Friday, with normal hours between 8:00 a.
m.
to 4:00 p.
m.
Sometimes working hours may be modified and exceed the standard work week.
Availability to attend athletic meetings, contents, and conferences may be required.
The position may require occasional travel.
