Job Description
The Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice, Tenure-Track, will demonstrate excellence in in-person teaching and a strong commitment to undergraduate education.
The faculty member will teach residential (seated) courses in Criminal Justice, which may include Introduction to Criminal Justice, Courts and Justice, Ethics in Criminal Justice, The Constitution and Criminal Procedure, Research Methods in Criminal Justice, and other courses as needed, dependent on the areas of expertise of the faculty member and needs of the department.
This nine (9) month faculty appointment carries a twenty-four (24) credit hours/year load, some of which may be online per the determination of the Program Director, Department Chair, and Dean.
The faculty member will have an active research agenda and will be active in engaging with undergraduate students in research or other professional development activities outside of the classroom.
The faculty member will serve as an academic advisor to students in the Criminal Justice and Homeland Security majors.
As a tenure-track faculty member, the faculty member will be expected to contribute to the life of the university.
Service to the department, college, and university is expected.
Teach courses in Criminal Justice and Homeland Security as assigned.
Work with students to secure and complete Field Experience.
Serve as the academic advisor to students in the department.
Engage with undergraduates in professional development activities outside of the classroom.
Provide service to the department, college and institution.
Required Qualifications
Successful candidate must either a) have a Ph.
D.
in Criminal Justice or a closely-related discipline (or be ABD with the understanding that the Ph.
D.
will be completed within the first year of employment), or b) have a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice or a closely-related field and have significant professional experience in the criminal justice field
A demonstrated commitment to serving students
Significant experience in residential teaching and familiarity with online teaching
Experience addressing and resolving student concerns
Ability to advise students pursuing careers in law enforcement and related professional areas
Evidence of an active research agenda
A plan for starting or continuing outside-of-the-classroom research or other professional development activities that can involve students
