Position: Child Care SubstituteImmediate Supervisor: Child Care Director
*GENERAL DESCRIPTION*To assist the designated Lead Teacher in daily classroom activities while providing a warm and nurturing environment for all children and families.
Maximum of 28 hours per week.
*REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS *(JFS 2:12:08, JFS 2:12:10, SUTQ Professional Development)*Education/Experience: *High School Diploma or GED and have at least 1 year of experience in a child care setting.
Candidate must meet all additional licensing and Step Up To Quality requirements.
*Licenses/Certifications:*● Must pass BCI/FBI background check and physical before hire.
(JFS 2:12:09)● Must complete Child Abuse Recognition and Communicable Disease Recognition, CPR, First Aid, Oxygen Administration, and Ohio Department of Jobs & Family Services Orientation within60 days of employment.
*DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*● Assist in maintaining a classroom environment that is warm, safe, and supportive of children with all abilities.
● Effectively communicate concerns/program changes, etc.
with staff, families, and children.
May be verbal or written communication.
● Appropriately interact with children during activities and actively participate in planned/unplanned activities.
● Maintain a warm and safe environment that is orderly, clean and appealing, promoting each child’s growth through exploration.
● Use developmentally appropriate strategies for discipline.
● Assist Lead to maintain daily attendance, any daily reporting sheets for children, classroom enrollment records, and all licensing standards for the classroom.
● Possess good oral and written communication skills to cooperate with classroom and center staff, families, children and the community at large.
● Attend monthly staff meetings and all licensing and Step Up To Quality required trainings.
● Model professional behavior and appearance to act as a positive and effective liaison between the Child Care Center, Tiffin Community YMCA, and the community.
● Be proactive in the classroom instead of reactive.
You are to assist the Lead Teacher; do not wait for the Lead Teacher to direct you.

*DRESS CODE*● Dress pants, khaki pants or jeans with no visible holes or wear are permitted.
Shorts, skirts, and dresses of fingertip length are permitted.
Hems should not be frayed.
● Shirts should be either YMCA approved logos or business casual shirts.
● Clothing should not be restricting or too loose.
Undergarments should not be visible.
Pants should be on the waistline (mid to high rise), low rise only accepted if shirt is tucked into pants.
● Gym shoes or other closed toed shoes are appropriate.
● Swim suits must be one piece, modest suits.
Males may not wear speedo styled swimsuits.
● Keep in mind you are bending, squatting, kneeling, sitting and active with children and adults.
*PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT*You are required on a regular basis to meet the following physical requirements: ● Stand, sit, kneel, walk, bend, squat, crawl, climb, balance, and stoop without assistance from others in getting up from these positions.
● Use hands, fingers, and arms to reach, grab, hold, handle, push, pull and perform forward and circular motions.
● See and hear with OR without the use of corrective hearing aids/contact lenses/glasses.
● Speak and communicate verbally.
● Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
Frequently lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
Occasionally lift and/or move more than 40 pounds.
While performing the duties of this position, you are exposed to fumes and/or chemicals from cleaning products and operating equipment, airborne particles such as dust and vibrating or moving parts.
You are exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
The noise level is usually moderate to loud.
*PROFESSIONAL COMMITMENT POLICY*All teaching and administrative staff continuously strengthen their knowledge and increase their ability to put knowledge into practice.
● Staff develop an annual individualized professional development plan with the Director within30 days of hire.
● Administrators and teaching staff are required a minimum of 20 clock hours of specialized training per biennium.
Training hours must be job specific and/or related to the age group of children with which the teacher works.
(Must take at least 10 hours of Ohio Approved training/professional development between July 1st and June 30th each year).
● Online ODJFS Orientation is required within 30 days of employment.
● Must scan in all required documentation to OCCRAA within 30 days of employment.
● Must create Ohio Professional Development Network profile before first day and submit required background checks.
● Must complete First Aid, CPR, Child Abuse Recognition, Communicable Disease Recognition, within 60 days of employment and maintain certification.
(Upload to OCCRRA and submit a copy to the Director or Coordinator) ● Training approved by the Director is paid for by the YMCA Child Care.
